Feeling Nostalgic: Catscratch - This Means War!

Catscratch was a cartoon featured on Nickelodeon that aired from July 9, 2005 to February 10, 2007. It lasted only one season, with 20 episodes in total. The show featured a trio of anthropomorphic cats, Mr. Blik, Gordon, and Waffle. Together, the three kitties lived in their owner's mansion inheriting her wealth after her passing. Despite watching this show, I really couldn't tell you anything about it aside from the premise (oh and also the strange relationship between Gordon and Kimberly. Seriously, what was that). That being said there is one thing I do remember from the show. And that is the flash game based on the show, AKA "This Means War!"

They gave you a crazy amount of donuts...

This Means War is a turn-based tactical game, extremely similar to the Worms franchise. You can play as one of the three cats, although there are no differences between the cats aside from appearance. Your goal is to reduce the health of each of the other cats to zero. Each cat is supplied with an arsenal of different items. There are the weapons, donuts, paper airplanes, and water guns, defensive items, columns, used to shield your cat, and movement items, balloons, meant to help you move around. There's also the Kraken, a special item you can only use when your health is low enough, that will attack a cat of your choosing... if you can get the timing right.

You use balloons to move around.

I was always a fan of turn-based tactical games like the Worms series, although I have never played the Worms games before, so This Means War was a game I found myself going back to pretty often. It was the same game every time, with the cpu acting pretty much the same in every match, with some variation here and there. Despite that, it was fun to try different strategies. Plus I believe the game was multiplayer so really you could play with friends if you wanted.

It's honestly a shame that This Means War can no longer be played. Nickelodeon games, as well as Cartoon Network and other TV network websites that feature games for children, tend to be simple yet fun. Sometimes it's nice being able to jump into a quick fun game of something. Even if you don't remember how to play, it's easy to pick up and play. At least I'll always have my memories...
